London Men Who Buy Sex
Yesterday I went to the launch of a paper – “Men Who Buy Sex: Who They Buy and What They Know”. It jointly written by Eaves Housing and Prostitution Research and Education.

KBR worker reportedly raped at base in Iraq
Houston-based firm helping Army investigation

An American woman working for Houston-based KBR at a U.S. military base in Iraq was reportedly raped and beaten so badly by a base worker she had to be hospitalized, and while KBR officials declined to provide details, they confirmed Wednesday they are cooperating in a military criminal investigation.
U.S. military officials in Iraq confirmed the Nov. 30 attack, but few details were available, including the woman's hometown, her age or her current medical condition.
“We've got initial reports down here. All we know is that an incident did occur” and that it involved the rape of an American woman working for KBR at Joint Base Balad, said Lt. Brian Wierzbicki, desk officer at the Multi-National Forces press office in Baghdad. A detailed request for information to U.S. military investigators in Iraq had not been returned as of press time.
The report of the incident at the base north of Baghdad is the latest in a series of complaints of sexual harassment and assault by women working for the international construction and services contractor

Jovencitas de Davao empujadas a la prostitución.
DAVAO, Filipinas, nov (IPS) - A los 14 años, la filipina Ann se preocupa de no quedar embarazada y de no contraer sida (síndrome de inmunodeficiencia adquirida). Para ello utiliza condones con cada uno de sus clientes.
Según ella misma afirma, se ha vuelto tan buena en esto que el hombre de turno ni siquiera se entera.
"Nos han enseñado cómo hacerlo", relata Ann (nombre ficticio), quien al cumplir 13 años fue reclutada para trabajar en un bar en Santo Tomás, más de 60 kilómetros al norte de la meridional ciudad filipina de Davao, donde tiene sexo a cambio de dinero con trabajadores de las plantaciones de bananas y guardias de colonias penales en sus ratos de ocio.
Ann es parte de una cantidad cada vez mayor de menores que integran Lawig Bubai (algo así como "Adelante, mujeres"), una organización de niñas y mujeres prostitutas de esta ciudad.

URGENT APPEAL TO SAVE KENYA GIRLS FROM EXCISION/FGM BY
DIRECTOR OF INTER-AFRICAN COMMITTEE ON TRADITIONAL PRACTICES
It is with great sense of alarm and shock that we learnt of the excision ritual that is taking place in the Pokot district in Kenya.
According to the report we received so many girls have been excised and about a 100 more are awaiting their turn. In this day and age when several international instruments have been signed and accepted to protect women and girls from violence such public carnage cannot and should not be tolerated by the international community. We would like to call upon all well meaning individuals, organizations, which stand for basic human rights to life and dignity to take all necessary actions to stop this unacceptable behaviour and practice. We call upon the Government of Kenya to declare a state of emergency and to mobilize all forces and efforts to save the lives of these innocent girls lined up to be sacrificed in the name of tradition and culture.
Thank you for your urgent attention to this call. Please diffuse this message widely through your networks and contacts to other human rights activists.

Ecuador.- En el marco del Día Internacional para la Eliminación de la Violencia contra la Mujer, se llevó a cabo en Guayaquil, Ecuador una campaña con el objetivo de que las y los jóvenes reflexionen y tomen un papel más activo en la lucha contra la violencia sexual.
El encuentro promovido por el Centro Ecuatoriano de Acción y Promoción de la Mujer, (CEPAM), incluyó una manifestación en las calles de la ciudad con carteles, mimos y música, para exponer de manera pública que la violencia sexual es un delito, y es necesaria la coordinación de la sociedad para evitarlo.
Hombres jóvenes se unieron a la protesta para pedir a la sociedad un momento de reflexión en esta práctica abusiva que demanda la atención de las autoridades en los ámbitos legales, educativo y de salud.

Law Change Sought to Criminalize Purchasing of Sex
MSPs are being asked to change the law and criminalise the purchase of sex.
The "End Prostitution Now" campaign, launched by Glasgow City Council, aims to create "no hiding place for the pimps, punters and brothel keepers".
It is pushing for legislative changes to create a range of offences designed to target the purchase of sex.
These would target buyers of sex, those who arrange or advertise sex, and those who provide accommodation where the sale of sex takes place.

El 5 de diciembre por la noche concluyeron las “Primeras Jornadas Nacionales Abolicionistas sobre Prostitución y trata de Mujeres y Niñas/os”, realizadas en la Facultad de Filosofía y Letras de la Universidad Nacional de Buenos Aires durante el 4 y 5 de diciembre. Fueron dos días intensos de trabajo, intercambio y encuentros, con la presencia de más de 300 personas, durante su desarrollo.

Violence against women comes in many different forms. One such form of violence is sexual assaults and rape of girls and women. Sexual assault within Palestinian society is a continuous problem that needs to be addressed and dealt with, particularly because Palestinians continue to live in a culture that fosters silence related to sexual assaults in the name of honor and considers sexual matters a taboo that should not be discussed.
Sexual violence is an on-going problem within the family, in schools, at the workplace and in public places. Not only has there been a lack of awareness within Palestinian society, particularly amongst children, related to sexual assault, but the perpetrators themselves often take advantage of the ignorance and the lack of understanding related to sexual violence, whose victims are often girls and women.

La
Legislatura de la ciudad de Buenos Aires aprobó la creación de una oficina
destinada a combatir la trata de personas, y que en el marco de la ley 2781,
garantiza la asistencia integral a las víctimas.
Dependerá
del área de derechos humanos del municipio porteño y tendrá por objeto
organizar y administrar instrumentos y recursos para asistir, proteger y
reinsertar a las víctimas de trata, a sus hijos/as y a sus familiares
afectados. La integrarán representantes del Poder Ejecutivo, Legislativo,
Judicial, la Defensoría del Pueblo y del Consejo de los Derechos de Niñas,
Niños y Adolescentes.
Según lo
define la Ley, existe explotación en cualquiera de los siguientes supuestos:
cuando se redujere o mantuviere a una persona en condición de esclavitud o
servidumbre o se la sometiere a prácticas análogas; cuando se obligare a una
persona a realizar trabajos o servicios forzados; cuando se promoviere,
facilitare, desarrollare o se obtuviere provecho de cualquier forma de comercio
sexual; cuando se practicare extracción ilícita de órganos o tejidos humanos.
